Blackhorse Mitchell grew up around Poppin Rock Ranch, NM on their family's big ranch. With little company, except his sheepdog of course, and a large herd of sheep Blackhorse turned to music in this remote corner of the Navajo Reservation on Palmer Mesa above Saltcreek Canyon.
Later on the seventies with lyrics about people, sweethearts, and young love influenced some of his songs on this album.
Today, with an extensive education in literary writing, classical language, and bilingual education, Blackhorse teaches the Navajo language at Shiprock High School in Shiprock, NM. His acclaimed book, Miracle Hill: The Story of a Navajo Boy, made Blackhorse the first Navajo author on the New York Bestseller List. To this day he herds sheep and composes songs. Blackhorse presents his songs at various conferences, and workshops, and delivers lectures at universities.
When he is not singing, composing, writing, or teaching Blackhorse enjoys Navajo pottery, making moccasins, basketry, writing screenplays, and telling Navajo jokes.
